Tengrinews.kz - For several days now, Almaty has experienced unusually hot weather for April. Tengrinews.kz asked Kazhydromet for details.
A resident of Almaty reached out to the editorial office asking for clarification from meteorologists on whether the current temperatures are within the norm. For several days, thermometers have shown over 30 degrees Celsius.
“It’s been very hot outside for a few days now. I’d like to understand whether this is typical for April. I don’t remember it ever being this hot,” she said.

We contacted the press service of Kazhydromet to comment on the situation.
“In the first half and at the end of April, the high air temperature in Almaty was caused by the intense inflow of warm air masses from the regions of Iran and Central Asia. Since the city is a metropolis, natural factors raising the air temperature are also compounded by anthropogenic factors,” Kazhydromet said in a statement.
Anthropogenic factors refer to phenomena resulting from human activity. In the context of rising air temperatures in large cities like Almaty, these include, for example, heavy traffic, dense urban development, and so on.
“In April 2025, air temperatures in Almaty significantly exceeded the multi-year average by 2–6 degrees, with the monthly norm being 12.1 degrees,” Kazhydromet added.
Thus, there is a notable exceedance, indicating that April 2025 in Almaty was abnormally warm compared to the typical weather for this month.
“On April 4 in Almaty, a record air temperature of 25.8 degrees was recorded, surpassing the 1999 record of 24.6 degrees. The highest temperature recorded was 31 degrees on April 28, although this did not break the record for that date, as it was even hotter in 2020 (33 degrees),” Kazhydromet said.
What will the weather be like in May 2025 in Almaty
According to the forecast for Almaty, the average air temperature in May is expected to be 1 degree above normal, with the monthly norm being 17.1 degrees.
“In May, hot days will alternate with cooler ones. Throughout the month, air temperature fluctuations are expected: at night from +5–10 degrees to +10–15 degrees, and during the day from +15–20 to +25–33 degrees,” meteorologists said.
It is worth noting that on April 30, Almaty is expected to see partly cloudy weather, with occasional rain and thunderstorms. Northwesterly winds will reach 3–8 m/s, with gusts up to 15 m/s. The temperature will be 15–17°C at night and 21–23°C during the day.
