What happened

On 8 November, part of the brick façade of a nine-storey building on Tauelsizdik Avenue, 24B collapsed in Astana, injuring five people. All victims were taken to City Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 1. Among them was 23-year-old paramedic Uldana Myrzauan, who was in critical condition and underwent surgery. She passed away today.

According to her relatives, Uldana was the first to run toward the victims — a child, the child’s mother and a relative — when the façade began to collapse. As she tried to help, “brickwork and an air-conditioner mount fell on her,” family members said.

Following the incident, police opened a criminal case under Article 278 of the Criminal Code (“Substandard construction”). Later, an additional charge was added under Article 306 (“Production, sale or provision of unsafe goods, work, or services”).
