Tengrinews.kz - On September 10, a report was received from the Astana station dispatcher about a sulfuric acid spill from a railway tanker, according to the Transport Sanitary-Epidemiological Control Department.
The cargo tankers, traveling from Chelyabinsk to Zhanatas, were situated on the second track of the Astana station's foothill yard. During an inspection, a crack was found in the tank from which sulfuric acid had leaked.
Samples of atmospheric air were collected by the National Expertise Center to test for sulfuric acid. Research results showed that the concentrations of sulfuric acid did not exceed permissible limits.
"The sulfuric acid leak has been contained. There are no reported injuries," stated the official release.
Sulfuric acid is a highly reactive and dangerous chemical that can cause severe irritation to the skin, mucous membranes, and respiratory system. In case of contact with sulfuric acid, safety measures should be followed, and affected areas should be immediately rinsed with cold water.
