Snowstorm hits Astana, fog blankets Almaty: Three-day weather forecast

Tengrinews.kz – Forecasters have shared the weather outlook for Astana and Almaty over the next three days, from December 16 to 18. Short version: Astana is bracing for snow and strong winds, while Almaty is in for fog, ice and mixed precipitation.

Astana forecast

December 16: Cloudy with snow and blizzard conditions. Icy roads expected. Southwesterly wind at 15–20 m/s, with gusts up to 25 m/s. Temperatures around -9 to -11°C both day and night.

December 17: Partly cloudy, occasional snow and drifting snow. Westerly to southwesterly wind at 9–14 m/s, with nighttime gusts up to 15–20 m/s. Temperatures drop to -15 to -17°C.

December 18: Partly cloudy, intermittent snow and drifting snow. Wind at 9–14 m/s. Nighttime temperatures -15 to -17°C, daytime -13 to -15°C.

Almaty forecast

December 16: Partly cloudy with no precipitation. Fog and icy conditions at night and in the morning. Northwesterly wind at 2–7 m/s. Temperatures -4 to -6°C at night, +1 to +3°C during the day.

December 17: Partly cloudy. Rain and snow expected during the morning and afternoon, along with fog and ice. Wind at 3–8 m/s. Temperatures -1 to -3°C at night, +1 to +3°C during the day.

December 18: Partly cloudy. Snow at night, with rain and snow during the day, at times heavy. Fog and icy conditions expected. Northeasterly wind at 3–8 m/s, with daytime gusts up to 15–18 m/s. Temperatures -3 to -5°C at night, 0 to -2°C during the day.

Earlier, Kazhydromet warned that a large cyclone will continue to affect most of Kazakhstan. Snow and blizzards are expected across much of the country, while southern and southeastern regions may see rain, snow and icy conditions. In northern, central and eastern regions, nighttime temperatures are forecast to drop from -7…-15°C to -12…-28°C, with daytime temperatures falling to -8…-18°C.
