Tengrinews.kz – A Kazakhstani national wanted internationally has been extradited from Russia to Kazakhstan, the country’s General Prosecutor’s Office announced.
The man had been convicted of causing grievous bodily harm during a violent altercation in 2023 in the city of Ridder. During the conflict, he stabbed the victim in the head and torso. The victim survived the attack.
Initially, the court handed down a non-custodial sentence. However, the convict evaded serving his punishment, prompting authorities to place him on the international wanted list.
“In September last year, the fugitive was detained in Russia’s Altai Krai and, following a request from Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office, was extradited. He has since been placed in a detention facility and is now facing a custodial sentence of over two years,” the statement read
