Kazakhstan wins first gold medal at Paris Paralympics

Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh powerlifter David Degtyarev won a gold medal at the Paralympic Games in France. In connection with such an event Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated David Degtyarev.

At the XVII Summer Paralympic Games, Degtyarev secured the gold in the para powerlifting competition in the up to 54-kilogram weight category. In the final, he made three attempts, with his best lift reaching 188 kilograms (the other attempts were 185 and 186 kilograms).

The silver medal was won by the representative of Cuba Pablo Ramirez Barrientos with the result of 185 kilograms, while China's Yang Jinglang claimed the bronze with a lift of 179 kilograms.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated the athlete on his victory.

"Congratulations to David Degtyarev, who has become a two-time Paralympic champion! He demonstrated an outstanding performance and unwavering strength of spirit," the Head of State wrote on his X page.

It should be noted that Degtyarev won his second Paralympic gold. He first triumphed at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

Earlier, the first Kazakh athlete started with a victory at the Paralympic Games in Paris.
