According to reports, Harris called Trump to congratulate him on his victory. During the brief conversation, they discussed the importance of a peaceful transition of power and the president’s role in representing all Americans.
"Donald Trump and Kamala Harris spoke by phone on Wednesday morning, with Harris congratulating him on his historic win. President Trump commended Vice President Harris for her strength, professionalism, and perseverance throughout the campaign, and both leaders acknowledged the importance of national unity," Trump’s campaign statement read.
President Joe Biden also called Trump to congratulate him on his victory, emphasizing the need to work together to unite the nation, according to the White House press pool.
Later that day, Kamala Harris delivered her first public speech since the defeat, addressing her supporters gathered on the lawn of Howard University in Washington, D.C. She urged acceptance of the election results and expressed the Biden administration’s readiness to assist Trump’s team during the transition period, promising a "peaceful transfer of power."
Harris thanked her campaign team, her vice-presidential running mate Tim Walz, and President Joe Biden for their support. She pledged to continue fighting for democracy and American values in every area permitted by law, "in the courts and in the public square."
Harris’s concession speech lasted about ten minutes, after which she left the stage, holding hands with her husband under a security escort.
The U.S. presidential election took place on November 5, with Harris representing the Democratic Party and Trump the Republican Party.
Trump was declared the winner around 2:00 a.m. Washington time (12:00 p.m. in Astana) after securing victories in all key states. He addressed his supporters in Florida, affirming his victory.
