Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan’s national weather service, Kazhydromet, has issued a forecast for October 21–23, warning of an intensive cooling of the near-surface air layer due to the influence of an anticyclone.
According to meteorologists, most of the country will experience calm, dry, and mostly clear weather. These conditions will lead to rapid nighttime heat loss from the ground surface, causing a sharp temperature drop and maintaining subzero readings during the night.
What is near-surface cooling?
This phenomenon occurs on clear, windless nights when the ground quickly releases accumulated heat after sunset. As a result, frost, fog, and dew are likely to form — particularly in lowlands and open areas.
At the same time, western, northwestern, and far southeastern regions of Kazakhstan will feel the influence of a passing cyclone. In these areas, cloudy skies, rain, and, in the west, even heavy precipitation are expected. Forecasters also predict stronger winds and patches of fog in the north and east during nighttime and morning hours.
Kazhydromet noted that no significant changes in overall temperature patterns are expected over the coming days.
Earlier, the agency shared its preliminary outlook for the upcoming winter of 2025–2026, describing it as mild but unstable — with occasional sharp temperature swings, snowstorms, and icy conditions possible.
