Experts from InsureandGo analyzed online interest to find the top Christmas market destinations of 2024, revealing a rising curiosity for unique, less crowded locations where visitors can immerse themselves in the holiday spirit.

Top Christmas destinations of 2024

Sydney leads the list with a 233% increase in interest. The city’s Christmas markets open in mid-November, offering a range of handcrafted gifts, holiday foods, and live music. Visitors are encouraged to see the Martin Place market, which boasts New South Wales' tallest Christmas tree adorned with over 300 sparkling ornaments.

Tokyo follows with a 116% growth in popularity. Known for its success in 2023, Tokyo moved up six spots to rank second. The Meiji Jingu Gaien market, supported by the German embassy, features a 14-meter tree imported from Germany and authentic European treats.

In third place is Cork, Ireland, with a 108% rise in interest. Cork’s “Corkmas” festivities include a Christmas parade and a new Winterlee location, complete with wooden chalets, seasonal foods, and the Alpine Skate trail.

Established in 1903, it’s renowned for its unique location in the world’s oldest open-air museum, offering visitors traditional Swedish mulled wine and holiday treats.

New York’s Bryant Park market ranks second, with a 311% increase in popularity. As the city’s oldest market, it’s known for its shops and free ice rink open until March.
