Tengrinews.kz — The official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Erlan Zhetybayev, has issued a statement regarding the incidents involving oil tankers in the Black Sea.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has expressed serious concern over the drone attacks that took place on January 13 against three oil tankers heading to the marine terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in the Black Sea.

“During emergency meetings held with ambassadors of a number of European countries, as well as contacts with the American side and other foreign partners, we emphasized the need to take effective measures to ensure the safety of hydrocarbon transportation, including along maritime routes, in strict compliance with international law,” the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that Kazakhstan is not a party to any armed conflict, makes a significant contribution to strengthening global and European energy security, and ensures uninterrupted energy supplies in full accordance with established international norms.

“In this regard, we note that the tankers in question had all the necessary permits and were equipped with the required identification equipment,” the ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry also noted that the growing number of such incidents indicates increasing risks to the functioning of international energy infrastructure. In this context, Kazakhstan called on its partners to engage in close cooperation to develop joint measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
