Tengrinews.kz - In the 2025 edition of the annual Global Terrorism Index published by the Australian Institute for Economics and Peace, Kazakhstan has been recognized as one of the safest countries in the world. The country ranked 100th, with a zero terrorism threat index.

Kazakhstan outperformed a number of Western nations in terms of safety — including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Spain — as well as Russia, China, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, the UAE, and Turkey.

The report notes a negative global trend: the number of countries that recorded terrorist attacks during the reporting period rose from 58 to 66. In Western countries, attacks increased by 63 percent. Sweden, Australia, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Switzerland experienced terrorist incidents for the first time in more than five years.

Germany ranked as the highest-risk country in Europe, placing 27th following an attack at a fair in Magdeburg. Israel and Syria entered the top ten most dangerous states for terrorism.

In 2017 Kazakhstan held the 67th position in the global index. The last terrorist attacks in the country occurred in 2016 (in Aktobe and Almaty). The current high safety ranking is attributed to preventive measures taken by state authorities and Kazakhstani NGOs amid ongoing security threats.

Between 2017 and 2025, security services prevented nearly 40 planned terrorist attacks and other violent acts, including two attempts this year.
