Tengrinews.kz – A camera trap captured a snow leopard in the Katon-Karagai National Park, and the video has appeared online.

The footage was shared on the park’s official Instagram account.

“The snow leopard has once again been caught on camera,” the organization reported.

According to park officials, the camera trap was installed in July 2025 by ranger Zhomart Amanbayev and inspector Bolat Kobeshev, and the data was retrieved in early October.

“The rare visits to the camera site are due to its difficult access and the need to minimize human presence to preserve the animals’ peace. Each leopard is identified by the unique pattern of its spots, especially on the face. Snow leopards are exceptional athletes: they can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h over short distances and leap 10–14 meters,” the park explained.

Recent data shows that there are 11 snow leopards living within the park’s territory.

Meanwhile, in the Ile-Balkhash State Nature Reserve, another camera trap recorded wolves drinking water.

“Such moments indicate the stability of the ecosystem and the healthy state of wildlife in the reserve,” the publication noted, adding that such footage is a rare occurrence.
