Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan’s ministry of Labor and Social Protection's Committee for State Labor Inspection Chairman Yerbolat Abulhatin provided insights on the country’s inclusion in South Korea’s Employment Permit System, which will allow Kazakhstani citizens to work legally in South Korea.

The issue of Kazakhstan's inclusion in the Employment Permit System (EPS) was first discussed in January of last year. Negotiations were held between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor.

In March, South Korea's Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Cho Tae-ik, expressed expectations that the system would be implemented in 2024.

When will Kazakhstan citizens be able to work in South Korea?

According to Abulhatin, there is significant interest among Kazakhstan's citizens, particularly those who are working illegally in South Korea.

"The goal is to legalize their labor. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan has already sent the relevant proposals to South Korea. However, with the change in South Korea’s government, this process has slowed down a bit. But with the new government and president now in place, I believe the work that started last year will be concluded this year. This process depends entirely on the decisions of South Korea’s government," Abulhatin explained.

This new system will provide a pathway for Kazakhstan’s citizens to work legally in South Korea, addressing the concerns of those working in South Korea without proper permits.
