Tengrinews.kz – More than 6,000 internet resources containing illegal content were blocked in Kazakhstan in the first half of the year. This was reported by the Interior Ministry as it summarized its work to combat drug-related crime.
“A drug call center was dismantled”
In May, police, together with foreign colleagues, dismantled a major drug call center in Ukraine. Eleven suspects were detained.
“They were involved in recruiting and drawing Kazakh citizens into drug schemes. In addition, over six months, 15 drug laboratories were dismantled and the activities of six organized crime groups were stopped, one of them transnational,” said Kuandyk Alzhanov, deputy chairman of the Interior Ministry’s Committee for Combating Drug Crime.
It was also specified that more than 7 tonnes of drugs were seized in six months, including more than 500 kilograms of synthetic drugs.
“Websites were blocked”
According to Kuandyk Alzhanov, 6,000 websites with illegal content were blocked through the Cyber Supervision system.
“Through the Anti-Fraud Center, 9,000 bank cards used for financing totaling 135 million tenge were frozen. A Targeting Center has been created. Strict liability has been introduced for the trafficking of precursors and potent substances, as well as for dropper activity. Kazakhstan is becoming a platform for global coordination in countering drug crime. In February, a meeting of the regional working group on precursors was held with representatives of 15 states,” he said.
As a reminder, in mid-June, a verdict was handed down in Pavlodar in a case involving the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances and the legalization of criminal proceeds. It was established that A. organized the illegal sale of poppy seeds mixed with narcotic substances under the guise of food products. By court verdict, A. and two of his accomplices were each sentenced to seven years in prison.
