4 million calls: National Security Committee conducts detentions in Almaty

Tengrinews.kz — The National Security Committee (NSC), in coordination with the prosecutor’s office, has disrupted the activities of a criminal group in Almaty involved in telephone fraud.

Scheme and scale of damage

According to the NSC, members of the group организовали the possibility of making international calls to Kazakh subscribers from abroad bypassing telecom operators.

“In particular, virtual telephone stations were created through front companies, local mobile numbers were purchased, and malicious software was used,” the NSC said.

As a result of the illegal activity, more than 4 million calls were made. The damage to telecom operators exceeded 15 million tenge.

During searches, law enforcement officers seized technical equipment and other evidence relevant to the case.

The investigation is ongoing. Other information, in accordance with Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code, is not subject to disclosure.
