Kazakhstan national hockey team won its first 2011 World Ice Hockey Championship match against Estonia 5:1, website reports. Kazakhstan was leading 2:0 after the first round. The two goals were scored by Fedor Polischuk (07:58) and Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev (16:01). In the second 20 minutes Estonian team reduced the gap by one thanks to the efforts of Andrei Markov (28:46), however the advantage of the Kazakh team was soon restored back to two when Dmitry Dudarev scored the third goal (39:18). Talgat Zhailauov (55:48) and Roman Starchenko (59:05) capped the match with the remaining two goals brining the overall score to 5:1. Ruud van Baast was the chief referee of the match. The Kazakh national team (raked 17th) faced Estonia (ranked 27th) as part of its first match in Group B of the IIHF World Championship Division I. Its second match is going to be against Great Britain (ranked 23rd) on April 18 at 8 p.m. Its third match is going to be against Lithuania (ranked 24th) on April 20. Kazakhstan will face Poland (ranked 22nd) on the 21st and Ukraine (ranked 18th), the host country, on the 23rd. The rankings show that Kazakhstan has a good chance of winning in its Division I B Group and the Ukraine is going to be its last and toughest opponent. Kazakh national men’s ice hockey team head coached by Andrei Khomutov is currently ranked 17th in the world. It reached its highest IIHF ranking (11th) in 2006. The 2011 IIHF World Championship Division I are international Ice Hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Group A is contested in Budapest, Hungary and Group B is contested in Kiev, Ukraine with both tournaments running from April 17–23, 2011. Several days before the world championship match Kazakhstan national ice hockey team won a friendly match 3:0 against Slovenian national team currently ranked 19th in Vilnius. Fyodor Polischuk, Talgat Zhailauov and Yevgeniy Bumagin scored the goals.
