Kazakhstan’s online advertisement market is expected to surpass both the radio and printed media within 2 years’ time, Tengrinews.kz reports. This was announced at the BarCamp Central Asia 2011, educational [un]conference for New Media professionals, by Timur Kubekov, Vice President of KazContent. According to the Company, most Internet users live in major cities. By 2013 Internet providers plan to get rural areas connected to the Web, which will increase the number of users, boosting potential of the Kazakhstan’s online advertisement market. According to Mr. Kubekov, there are 4.6 million users of the World Web, with 47% of them using its resources on a daily basis. There are 7643 actively developing Kazakhstan-based websites, with only 16% of them offering Kazakh-language content. Although there is no legislation regulating e-commerce outlets, there are about 2000 e-shops. According to earlier research made by ICT-Marketing, by the end of 2010 the number of Internet users made up 4.3 million people. Most of respondents (63%) enjoy access to the Internet at home, with the share of those going online via mobile phones remaining insignificant.
