UAE will extradite the criminal who has stolen $20 million from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Tengrinews.kz reports citing official representative of Kazakhstan Interior Ministry Nurdilda Oraz. “Last week 43-y.o. Yerlan Kozhasbai, the citizen of Almaty wanted by Kazakhstan Interior Ministry’s Investigation Committee for commitment of heavy crimes, was apprehended in UAE upon request of Kazakhstan’s central Interpol bureau,” Oraz said. According to the Interior Ministry, Kozhasbai stole over 3 billion tenge ( $20 million) from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy in 2001 when he headed the Procurement Department there. According to the police, he flew to Istanbul from Manas airport in Bishkek on April 1. On April 9 he was on the international wanted list with the Red Notice for arrest and extradition. His extradition is currently being discussed by competent authorities of both countries. Extradition became possible after Kazakhstan ratified the bilateral agreement on extradition that had been delayed several times because of the problems with translation of the document into the state language (Kazakh).
