Enrico Gasparotto, Kazakhstan Pro-Team Astana cyclist won 2012 Amstel Gold Race, a prestigious one-day cycling race, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Interfax-Kazakhstan. Astana team won this race for the first time in its history, Kazakhstan Cycling Federation press-office said. “Enrico Gasparotto had to rip the victory from prominent cyclists. Damiano Cunego, Samuel Sanchez and two-time and current winner of the race Philippe Gilbert took part in Amstel Gold Race this year,” the Federation’s press-release said. The Amstel Gold Race is a prestigious road bicycle race held in the southern part of the province of Limburg, Netherlands since 1966. It attracts fans and cyclists from all over the world. The 260-kilometer race between Maastricht and Valkenburg cities consist of 32 ascents and the steepest ones are situated in the end of the race. The final Cauberg ascent is located in the very final part. The road is full of slanting climbs, refuge places and other difficulties that cause a lot of falls during the race.
