Construction of residential blocks started in Alatau region of Almaty. The buildings will be erected under state program for the city residents who built their houses in the protected areas of historical burial mounts when the city started expanding. Almaty Akim (Mayor) Akhmetzhan Yessimov checked the new buildings construction process, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the mayor's press-service. 309 buildings (1,200 apartments) are currently under construction in Karasu region for the city residents who are now living in the areas too close to gas and power lines, water-protection zones and other dangerous or protected areas. For several decades Almaty city was expanding. And some families happened to choose inappropriate areas to build their houses at. So now government is taking steps to solve the problem. 1,392 families will be moved to the new buildings after construction is completed. The region will also have a new school, kindergarten and a shopping mall. Additionally, a land lot next to the buildings will be given to each apartment-owner. 1,200 apartments are going to be commissioned within two years: 95 buildings (359 apartments) in 2011 and 214 buildings (841 apartment) in 2012.
