This year Kazakhstan is set to see state-of-the-art laboratories to test reactants used to extract uranium, Mr. Kalilallo Baitassov, KazAtomProm Scientific and Technical Development Department manager, told in an interview for Business Resource . “The memorandum we recently signed with Purolite envisages launching a laboratory to test and carry out incoming inspection of reactants supplied to KazAtomProm. Primarily, these will be reactants we use to extract uranium. In future we plan a JV to produce ion exchange resins for the uranium industry”, Mr. Baitassov said. According to him, the labs will be constructed by KazAtomProm in partnership with Purolite International AG. Their precise number and the amount of investments are still subject to discussion, but the sides have reached concept agreement. This will enable Kazakhstan specialists to benefit from experience exchange in Kazakhstan. “Our new partner has a range of products featuring unique qualities perfectly suiting Kazakhstan’s raw material. Joint operations will enable to work on more efficient ways of uranium extraction”, he said. Purolite International Limited engages in the development and manufacture of ion exchange resins, absorbents, and polymeric catalysts. KazAtomProm is Kazakhstan's major exporter of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power stations, special equipment, technologies and dual-usage materials.
