Kazakhstan residents are asked to turn off the light on March 31 as part of Earth Hour

Kazakhstan will take part in the Earth Hour ecological campaign for the fourth time, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Kazakhstan and Central Asian international project coordinators. “Kazakhstan citizens were suggested to turn off the light on March 31 at 8:30 pm. local time for one hour. This symbolic action will show the residents' awareness and concern about Kazakhstan and world environment future and global disastrous climate change issue as well,” the press-release reads. More than 60 Kazakhstan cities will join the campaign this year with 9 million residents who have declared their support to the Earth Hour ecological campaign. The Earth Hour is an annual global campaign called to help preserve nature on the Earth. Individuals, governments and legal entities turn off the light for one hour in their premises and apartments showing their readiness to change their way of life to a more ecology-friendly one. The campaign was held in Australia in 2007 for the first time. Astana, Almaty, Pavlodar, Aktobe, Atyrau, Karaganda, Urdhzar, Shymkent and other Kazakhstan cities will take part in the campaign.
