Members of the criminal group, a leader of which was wounded during apprehension in Almaty, are charged with the murder of a taxi driver, head of press-service of Almaty oblast Interior Department Kabeikhan Nurakhmet told Tengrinews.kz. The murder happened in July 2011 in Zharkent. According to Nurakhmet, the texi driver was killed with the use of construction armouring. The possible reason for the murder could be that the driver of Wolksvagen Golf was aware of the group's crimes. "The taxi driver, born in 1963, gave them a lift several times. When the suspects realized that he knew a lot, they decided to kill him," Nurakhmet said. According to him, the criminals committed crimes in different regions of the oblast. "They were armed with traumatic gun and metal armouring. The first assault was made on April 21 last year and after three months they committed the second one," he said. Police initiated 8 criminal cases, including the one on murder. During apprehension of the group's leader police officers had to use fire arms, because the man tried to escape. "Three anticipatory shots were made but the suspect did not stop. The wounded leader of the group was delivered to Zharken hospital. He is currently in the hospital in a guarded room. The prosecutor confirmed that the police actions during apprehension were lawful," press-secretary commented. According to Nurakhmet, the convicts were wearing masks made of stockings and rubber gloves. They secured themselves in all possible ways. For example, they left the car far from the crime site. They walked to the robbery sites, the officer added. In each case the criminals stole money and gold. For example, the criminals stole $50 thousand from one entrepreneur and 25 thousand Euro from another one, Nurakhmet said. The exact amount of damage has not been defined yet, but it is known that the criminals stole several billion tenge. "We are now investigating where the criminals kept their money and how they spent them," press-secretary said. Four members of the criminal group have been arrested.
