London Supreme Court decreed to arrest former head of BTA Bank Mukhtar Ablyazov, 48, for contempt of court, RIA Novosti writes. The court’s decision is expected to be announced later. The hearings on Ablyazov's arrest for contempt of court took place in the end of 2011. In particular, the plaintiff insisted that the defender (Ablyazov) was giving false testimony about his assets, misled the judge regarding his properties and continued to control his assets, despite of the court’s prohibition. Several witnesses from both sides made their statements at the trials. These hearings were held as part of the criminal trial initiated against the former head of BTA Bank in the beginning of 2009. The main hearings of this case are expected in the end of 2012. Ablyazov is accused of appropriation of $4.5 billion. Nine cases have filed against the businessman. Kazakhstan is demanding Ablyazov's extradition on charges of large-scale fraud and siphoning off BTA bank’s money via dummy companies.
