Nazarbayev stripped National Security Committee's officers off immunity

Kazakhstan President signed the Law On amendments to certain Kazakhstan’s legislative acts on special state authorities of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s press-service. The law is aimed at bringing several legislative acts in compliance with the Law On special state authorities of Kazakhstan. Earlier Senator Mukhtar Altynbayev explained that “the provisions of the law will be scratched out that vest immunity on officers of the national security authorities during performance of their duties making them immune from administrative apprehension, personal searches, inspections of their belongings and vehicles”. He also noted that “the main reason for scratching them out is that experts who reviewed the draft law and the Senate’s report called for the scratching. These recommendations were discussed at the meetings on December 26, 2011 and January 10, 2012. We also have to bear in mind that should these regulation be adopted, it would create contradictions in administrative proceedings.” According to the Senator, the draft law was discussed very carefully and comprehensively.
