A Kazakhstan athlete who wins the London Olympic Games will get around $250,000, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Ardak Togumov, press-secretary of Sport and Physical Education Agency. According to the government decree a winner of the Olympic Games will get $250 000 (for a gold medal), $150 000 (for a silver medal), $75 000 (for a bronze medal), $30 000 for the fourth place, and $20 000 and $10 000 for the fifth and sixth place correspondingly. According to the press-secretary, there will be some presents from Kazakhstan organizations besides the state awards. Local regional sport departments where the sportsmen live will award champions as well. “Local executive bodies in oblasts where the sportsmen live have at their disposal apartments and cars for the winners. There are Sport Federations in oblasts, and public organizations help them. For example, the Union of Businessmen awarded the Beijing champions with their own bonuses after the last Olympic Games. So, I think there will be many different awards beside of state ones. I just hope our sportsmen would perform at their best and they would receive everything in full measure later on,” Togumov said. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that Kyzyl-Orda oblast authorities promised local sportsmen to allocate $500 000 for a victory in the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
