Free trade zone treaty could be signed between the Customs Union (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus) and New Zealand by the end of 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Sergey Lavrov, head of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to him, a free trade zone treaty will allow the states to significantly enhance and deepen commercial relations between New Zealand, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. “The negotiations are in progress. We expect to sign the treaty during our chairmanship in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2012,” Lavrov said during a joint press-conference with Murray McCully, New Zealand Minister of Trade and Foreign Affairs. The head of Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry said that the parties are yet expected to hold a number of negotiations. “We hope that all the procedures will run smoothly and we will be able to sign the treaty,” the Minister said.
