1200 workers are involved in the construction and 127 will operate Moinak hydro-electric power station that is the largest energy project in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to Prime-Minister Karim Massimov's Facebook. Moinak hydro-electric power station is the largest energy project during Kazakhstan's Independence years, it will help eliminate energy deficit in the southern region. In early 1980s Almatyhydroproject started developing the project of Moinak hydro-electric power station construction on Charyn river. In 1985 the construction of facilities and the dam started according to the developed plan at Bestyubinsk water reservoir in Raiymbek region of Almaty oblast 150 kilometers east of Almaty. In 1992 was suspended due to the lack of funding the construction. In 2005 the government led by Karim Massimov took the decision to resume the construction. The cost of the project with the capacity of 300 megawatt is 54.6 billion tenge (364 mln. dollars). The capacity of Bestyubinsk water reservoir is enough to store up to 300 million cubic meters of water. Two powerful hydro-turbines produce 300 megawatt of electric power. The length of the tunnel is 9 kilometers, the height of concrete faced rockfill dam is almost 100 meters.
