Majilis passes vote of confidence in Karim Massimov’s Government

Kazakhstan’s new Parliament passed a vote of confidence in the existing government headed by PM Karim Massimov. “The Majilis passed a vote of confidence in the Government”, according to the Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatullin. A total of 105 Majilismen voted, with 92 voting in favor of the Government, another 5 voting against. “For the members of the Government and for me it is a great honor and responsibility. I assure you that meeting the Government’s obligations in the social realm will be the cornerstone of the economic policy. Today I want to reiterate once again that I have been and will be a loyal aide to President Nazarbayev”, PM Karim Massimov said. According to Government.kz, Karim Massimov was born in 1965. He graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University, Law School of Wuhan University, and Kazakh State Academy of Management. Holds degrees in international law and economics. Doctor of Science in Economics. Speaks English, Chinese, and Arabic. He started his professional carrier as Senior Economist at the Ministry of External Economic Ties of the Republic of Kazakhstan; served as Senior Specialist of the China-based representation office of the Kazakh Ministry of External Economic Ties in Urumqi; held position of the Managing Director of the Kazakh Trading House in Hong Kong. Went on to hold positions of the Chairman of the Board of Almaty Trade and Finance Bank and Chairman of the Board of the People’s Savings Bank of Kazakhstan. Was appointed Minister of Transport and Communications, Deputy Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From January 2006 served as Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From April 2006 - Vice Prime Minister-Minister of Economic Affairs and Budget Planning. Incumbent Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan since January 2007.
