Wolves started attacking people and cattle in Turkestan, a city of South Kazakhstan region, frightening local citizens, Ktk.kz reports. A wolf pack has slaughtered almost 200 cows and sheep during one of their raids. Shepherd and other residents who came to help had to drive the wolves off with sticks and shovels. They managed to kill only one wolf, and the rest ran away and bit several people. ”The head of the killed animal has been sent to a laboratory to see whether it had rabies or not. Injured men are get the necessary treatment,” Head of Veterinary Department of Agriculture Office of South Kazakhstan oblast Bazarbek Omarov said. According to the experts, wolves are driven to populated locality by strong frost and lack prey in bare steppe. This was the second time when wolves attacked people since the beginning of the month in South Kazakhstan oblast. One wolf bit four citizens the week before in Saryagashsk region.
