Voting will be held in Zhanaozen on January 15. The Constitutional Council failed to override the veto of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on January 11, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Considering the failure to override the objection of Kazakhstan President, the additional decree No.1 of the Constitutional Council dated January 6, 2012 explaining the decree No.5 of the Constitutional Council dated April 9, 2004 on the check of the Law On amendments to Kazakhstan Constitutional Election Law for compliance with the Constitution shall be considered unadopted. The constitutional proceedings on explanation of the decree No.5 of Kazakhstan Constitutional Council dated April 9, 2004 and check of the Law On amendments to Kazakhstan Constitutional Election Law for compliance with the Constitution shall be terminated. The decree shall be published in Kazakh and Russian languages in the national printed media,” chairman of the Constitutional Council Igor Rogov said. “The Constitutional Council failed to override the President’s veto. The decree on explanation is considered unadopted, that’s why the Central Election Commission is cancelling its decree on no elections in Zhanaozen. On January 15 the elections will be held in Zhanaozen as per the schedule,” deputy chairman of the CEC Vladimir Foos said. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev vetoed the decision of the Constitutional Council on the impossibility of holding the elections in Zhanaozen. Early Majilis and Maslikhat elections are appointed for January 15, 2012.
