Kazakhstan team Astana led by Ardavichus is now heading the general ranking of Dakar-2012 race in trucks class, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the tournament’s official website. The team was second in the third stage of the race. Italian Miki Biasion (Iveco) was first, 1 minute and 9 seconds ahead of the Kazakhstan’s team. KAMAZ of Andrei Karginov was third (plus 2 minutes and 19 seconds). In the general classification Ardavichus is ranked first. He is followed by Gerard De Rooy (Iveco) 28 seconds behind him and Biasion 1 minutes and 51 seconds behind him. After the second stage Arthur Ardavichus’s team Astana was ranked 6th being 6 minutes and 30 seconds later than the winner, Dutch racer Gerard De Rooy. Kazakhstan was ranked 5th in the general classification, where Ardavichus was 7 minutes 20 seconds behind De Rooy. Arthur Ardavichus told in the interview that the second stage of Dakar was very difficult for the team: “We covered 300 km of the special part, but the feeling is that we have covered 800 km. Hills, mountains and river-beds were very big and difficult obstacles. Once we have almost flipped over: the car was already flipping over, we went down and caught hold with one wheel,” Ardavichus said. Besides, the pilot noted that he saw other trucks going on fire. “Our competitor, who started earlier, got into a dune and we followed him into the same trap. The hole was huge. But we didn’t even stop, went uphill straight away. The crew is ok, our back sides hurt a little, but the rest is all right,” the racer said. At the first stage of the race Astana team was in the fifth place. The truck completed the stage in 39 minutes 1 second, 1 minute and 16 seconds behind the leader, the Dutch racer Van Vliet. Astana team started in the 33rd place. Kazakhstan team in offroaders class was ranked 106th at the third stage of the race 1 hour 44 minutes and 25 seconds behind the leader. The crew is 124th in the general classification. The second stage of the race was unsuccessful for Kazakhstan team competing in offroaders class and led by Denis Berezovskiy. The crew started 76th but finished the race 121st because of technical problems. Berezovskiy went down to 118th place in general scores.
