Kazakhstan has rendered humanitarian aid for the total of $56 million in 5 years, Tengrinews.kz reports citing official representative of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry.
“In the last five years Kazakhstan has rendered humanitarian aid worth $56 million. Considering the importance of enhancement of Kazakhstan’s interaction with the UN and more active positioning of the country as a donor in the context of its chairmanship of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC and its participation in international organizations and other international structures, voluntary payments in the amount of almost $2 million were made apart from the compulsory payments,” Altai Abibullayev said at a briefing on December 29, noting that Kazakhstan government also transferred $500 thousand to the OIC as a humanitarian aid for Somalia. The funds were aimed for food and medicines.
According to the authority, 179 students arrived in Kazakhstan in 2011 under education program for young people from Afghanistan.
Kunduz-Talukan road in Afghanistan was constructed at Kazakhstan’s expense.
5 thousand tons of rice were also sent to Afghanistan as a humanitarian aid from Kazakhstan's Emergency Situations Ministry.
Around 90 tons of diesel fuel were also sent to Afghanistan under a special quota. Kyrgyzstan received military vehicles worth $3 million, Tajikistan got 100 tons of vegetable oil and 134 tons of metal sheets.
Humanitarian aid was rendered to Turkey after the devastating earthquake.
Kazakhstan transferred money to Libya support fund.
The government made a decision on rendering financial aid to Japan in the amount of $1 million.
Kazakhstan allocated $2 million for Chernobyl projects.
