International Institute of Regional Research has published results of its exit polls in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports. The poll showed that Nursultan Nazarbayev got 95.88 percent of the votes in the country's capital, Zhambyl Akhmetbekov came second with 1.74 percent votes, Gani Kassymov got 1.31 percent and Mels Eleusizov got 1.07 percent. According to the Institute's data, voter turnout in Astana made 67.54 percent, whereas the official preliminary turnout count is set at 69.1 percent. “We expected that voter turnout in Astana would not exceed 50-52 percent. We were really surprised by the actual turnout we saw yesterday. It looked more like a referendum in support of the person who has been shaping the contemporary Kazakhstan for the last 20 years. It is like an affirmation that this man has the moral and other right to continue ruling this country,” said the head of the Institute Igor Kuznetsov.
