Triumphal arch called Mangilik Eli opened in Astana on December 16, Tengrinews.kz reports. Kazakhstan is celebrating the 20th anniversary of independence today. “There is a triumphal arch in many countries. They are usually dedicated to different events, including military victories. This time the Triumphal Arch is opened for a different reason. It means that we have triumphally passed 20 years of independence. It will be another symbol of Astana, a sign of our success and a sign of transition into the future,” Kazakhstan President said at the arch’s opening ceremony. President Nazarbayev congratulated Kazakhstan residents on the Independence Day saying that despite of the cold weather (it is -30C in Astana today) people gathered to celebrate this important date. The Triumphal Arch is located on Orynbor road on the Left Bank, it can be seen at the entrance to the city from the airport side. Its height is 20 meters. This symbolizes the 20th anniversary of the country’s independence. It has an observation platform with a nice view.
