The U.S. National Association of Theater Owners named Kazakh-born film director Timur Bekmambetov the best 2011 International Film Director, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing FilmPro. Timur Bekmambetov will receive the award at CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theater Owners, which will be held April 23-26 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. “Bekmambetov has got a unique talent. He has attracted spectators’ attention starting from his first movie. His Peshawar Waltz (Escape from Afghanistan) debut film was a violent and realistic look at the war between Russia and Afghanistan. Night Watch and Day Watch fantasy films thrilled audiences around the globe,” CinemaCon managing director Mitch Neuhauser said. The filmmaker is currently directing a joint project with Tim Burton. It is expected that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a $70 million budget fantasy film will become a world cinema flutter. Bekmambetov also plans to produce a new version of Gentlemen of Fortune Soviet iconic comedy film starring Sergey Svetlakov. Timur Bekmambetov is a Kazakh-born film director, producer and screenwriter, who has worked on films and commercials. He is mostly popular for his Russian Night Watch (2004) and Day Watch fantasy films (2006), and the American film Wanted (2008).
