Astana Beshbarmak aims for Guinness Book

Astana cooks will make beshbarmak (national meat and noodles dish) aiming to get into the Guinness Books of World Records, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to KAZBREND Public Fund. The cooked dish will weight 300 kilos. “The main goal of the project is to make a present to our country on the Independence Day. We’d like to popularize our national traditions all over the world by getting into the Guinness Book of Records,” KAZBREND Public Fund press-office said. “The ingredients will be weighed before the cooking begins and then placed to a specially made bowl that is four meters in diameter. The total weight of the dish will be measured by summing up the weights of all of its parts. First the boiled dough will be cut into pieces and evenly spread in the bowl. Then the cooks will chop and place the boiled horse meat over the dough. Bunch onion and green vegetables will be chopped and spread over the dough and meat. Then the cooks will pour hot broth on the dish with the help of long-handled bailers. This way national cooking traditions of serving the dish will be fully observed,” the Fund’s press-release reads. More than one thousand people will be able to try the dish on December 16 at 4 p.m. at Khan Shatyr shopping mall. The guests will be able to participate in performing of an ancient Kazakh dance called Kara Zhorga as well. Beshbarmak is one of the key traditional dishs in Kazakhstan. Boiled meat is diced and mixed with special boiled noodles. It is usually served in a big round dish. The meat is oftern served in rather large pieces. Beshbarmak is usually served with sorpa or shorpo – mutton broth in bowls called kese.
