Kazakhstan professional boxer Gennady Golovkin has defended his WBA (World Boxing Association) champion title in middleweight for the third time by knocking down 32-year old American Lajuan Simon, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Allboxing.ru. The match that was held in German Dusseldorf last Friday finished unexpectedly. After two minutes of the first round Simon attacked, but missed a hard-hitting left hook from Golovkin. The American collapsed on the ring's mat and didn't manage to stand up before the referee finished counting down. The video of the match is available here. 29-year old Golovkin won his 22nd match (with 19 knock-outs in his career) without a defeat. Golovkin won the champion title in August 2010 by knocking out Columbian Milton Nunez. Kazakhstan boxer defended the champion's title for the first time in December 2010, winning over Nilson Julio Tapia. Golovkin defended WBA title for the second time on June 18, 2010, winning ovder Ugandan Kassim Ouma. At the present time Golovkin's promoters are negotiating a match with German WBA super champion Felix Sturm. 31-year old Russian WBO (World Boxing Organization) middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog might also become one of the Golovkin's possible rivals. "This was a short but interesting fight. I am happy with my victory. I'd like to thank my team. Now I am looking forward to fighting against Sturm. I am sure the result will be the same. I have shown boxing fans that I am the real world middleweight champion," Golovkin said after the match against Simon. Golovkin is Kazakhstan professional boxer born in Karaganda, who lives in Stuttgart now.
