Bolatbek Kuandykov, head of administration of Kyzyl-Orda oblast, suggested to allocate a special scholarship for Ilya Ilyin, Kazakhstan three-time world weight-lifting champion and the winner of Beijing Olympics. The oblast’s Maslikhat (administration of the region) approved the suggestion, Tengrinews.kz reports, quoting KazTAG.
“The deputies have approved allocation of 2.2 million tenge ($14 860) for this purpose. Ilyin will get a monthly payment of almost $15 000,” Nurlan Kudaibergenov, the secretary of regional Maslikhat said.
“The most highly awarded sportsmen of Kazakhstan has started preparing for the London Olympics Games,” the regional Tourism, Physical Education and Sport department said.
“The main gold medal – the Olympic one – is awaiting me in London,” the sportsmen said in a meeting with Nursultan Nazarbayev in September. Kazakhstan weight-lifters won gained eight Olympic spots in Paris in November.
