Light rail construction to be launched in Astana in 2014

Works to construct a light rail in Astana are expected to start in 2011, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Kazakhstan PM Karim Massimov’s blog. “Issues of raising funds and launching a project to construct a light rail in Astana have been considered. Alstom of France will be the partner”, Head of the Kazakhstan’s Government posted on his blog. According to the PM, the light rail system would be 68 km long, with a 23 km leg linking the capital’s railway station to the airport. “Construction works are to be launched in 2014”, the PM elaborated. He underlined that development of the capital’s transport systems is an important step towards greater comfort for the city’s residents.
