Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has admitted that the Kazakhstan’s society needs a multi-party parliament and promised to consider the suggestion to dissolve the Majilis (lower chamber), the President’s Press Service reports. According to the Press Service, in his Akorda Residence President Nazarbayev had consultations with the country’s PM Karim Massimov, Senate Speaker Kairat Mami and Majilis President Ural Mukhamedzhanov with regards to the address of 53 Majilis members to President requesting to dissolve the chamber. Aslan Mussin, Head of the President’s Administration, also was among those in attendance. “The PM and Heads of both chambers supported the decision to dissolve the Majilis and call an early parliament elections”, the statement reads. Head of State emphasized that the Majilis deputies had substantiated their request with a number of reasons. Firstly, according to amendments to the Constitution, the Majilis shall be composed of at least two political parties. President stressed that Kazakhstan should pursue the vector of democratic development. Secondly, Kazakhstan has lived through the toughest in its history economic crisis of 2008-2009. The nation is just upturning, whereas the global economy is still volatile. “We have seen what is happening in Europe and what issues were discussed at the G20 summit. One cannot say that the global economy has been stabilized. The events in the EU have a direct impact on us. European states are not only important partners of Kazakhstan, but also investors and markets for Kazakhstan’s commodities and goods. We are getting ready for all possible scenarios”, the Press Service quoted President Nazarbayev as saying. President emphasized that the current Majilis had to deal with the large-scaled global crisis. He stressed that the society needs a multi-party Parliament. Renewal of the Parliament is needed for a large-scaled modernization. A possible overlapping of elections with the anticipated new wave of the global crisis will make the work of the country’s leadership harder. “Given the reasons mentioned (…) I will consider a decree to dismiss the Majilis and call an early elections”, the President said.
