Almaty residents will have a Halloween flash-mob on October 30, Tengrinews.kz reports. Around 700 people dressed in Halloween outfit will gather on Arbat (pedestrian part of Zhibek Zholy street in front of Tsum shopping center) to take part in a holiday parade. The city residents are invited to the event via Vkontakte social network. The message in the online group states that in the final of the fest the participants will walk along the city streets and wrap everything in toilet paper. “It will be everywhere! Cars, buildings, posts, curbs, we'll wrap up everything!” the invitation states. Besides, one of the organizers Alan Yessenbayev said that the parade will include sports and music contests. The participants will compete in throwing bags filled with artificial blood. The King of the Dead and the Queen of Darkness will be selected as well. According to him, the organizers will take all precautions to not bother or harm other residents. “The rules will be announced before the flash-mob begins. We don't want our event to have a bad ending,” the organizer noted. The Halloween groups will meet in different city areas: the locations will be announced online in andvance. They will then move to Arbat using public transport and scaring people on their way. Halloween is a tradition that appeared in the culture of ancient Celts in Ireland and Scotland. These days the holiday is widely celebrated in the U.S., Europe and some CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries. At night of October 31 children and teenagers dress up in scary costumes and frighten passers-by who pay off the “evil spirits” with candies. One of the main attributes of the holiday is “jack-o'-lantern” made out of a pumpkin with candles inside. By Vladimir Prokopenko
