The first meeting of Kazakhstan-Lithuanian business-forum opened in Astana today, October 7, Tengrinews.kz reports. The forum was attended by Kazakhstan Prime-Minister and Lithuanian president. Karim Massimov and Dalia Grybauskaitė held a meeting before the forum. Opening the business-forum, head of Kazakhstan government greeted the guests in Lithuanian. “Currently Lithuania and Kazakhstan have big opportunities for mutual support, for mutual supplement between businesses of our countries. Lithuania is a member of the European Union and it is very important for Kazakhstan to build close relations with the European Union and we hope for support from Lithuania in mutual cooperation and hope for your support in the coming entering into the World Trade Organization. From our side we can also render necessary support, including in terms of the Customs Union,” Karim Massimov said. “Of course, Lithuana, can help in this issue. For sure, we will always support you. Membership in such Organization will create a base of trust and we will be able to use this trust in the customs union you are creating and enhancing with Russia and Belarus. For us it will mean that Kazakhstan will become our neighbor. This is very good. Politically your country will also be able to play a big role in this union by not allowing this union to be politicized, as it is the customs union only,” Lithuanian president said. The business-forum included signing of memorandums between transport authorities of Kazakhstan and Lithuania. Another agreement was signed between Kazakhstan National Economic Chamber (NEC) and Industrial Confederation of Lithuania on establishment of the business council. According to chairman NEC, this will promote enhancement of contacts between businessmen of the two countries and strengthen trade-economic relations. Kazakhstan-business council will work on exchange of information about foreign economic and trade policies of Kazakhstan and Lithuania and tenders on investment projects. Companies of the two countries will work on implementation of bilateral cooperation projects. October 6 Kazakhstan President held a meeting with the president of Lithuania. The presidents discussed launch of railroad transport communication between the countries that will allow to deliver cargos from Kazakhstan to Baltic countries in less than 10 days.
