President Dalia Grybauskaitė spoke highly of her country's cardiac surgeons and architects during her visit to Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports. “You know about Lithuanian cardiac surgeons, whose portraits are hanging on your hospitals' walls. You know our architects who want to construct your theaters. Today you can see our food products in your shops. This means that Lithuania is represented in Kazakhstan. But there can be more of this representation,” Grybauskaitė said at the press-conference after the meeting with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev. She stressed that Lithuania is making a big bet on the council of businessmen of Kazakhstan and Lithuania, that was created for the first time in 20 years of the relations. Nazarbayev said that he is also satisfied with the relations between the countries, but noted that there is still a potential for a deeper economic cooperation. “There are 160 joint Kazakhstan-Lithuanian companies in Kazakhstan. We are interested in active cooperation in implementation of Kazakhstan’s industrialization program jointly with Lithuanian companies. Transport, agriculture, tourism, education and healthcare are promising directions for us. I think that the Customs Union between Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus creates good conditions for expansion of our trade and economic ties. Right now the commodities of both countries, Kazakhstan and Lithuania, will be passing only one border between Lithuania and Belarus,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said. Kazakhstan President reminded that Lithuania will be the first Baltic country to chair the EU in 2013. “It is very important for us. We hope for your support of our promotion of economic partnership with the EU,” he said. Earlier at the meeting with Nazarbayev Dalia Grybauskaitė said that railroad transport communication will be launched between Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
