Kazakhstan accepted chairmanship in the CIS Intergovernment Hydrometeorology Council, Tengrinews.kz reports. 23rd session of the Council started in Astana on September 28. Heads of weather services of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries gathered to discuss hydrometeorological security. "Dependency on nature will not decrease with development of civilization. On the contrary, major mega cities suffer from nature no less than small villages. Exposure scale is the only variable. New York, Moscow and Astana have to also think of protection from strong cold, sharp weather changes and other unfavorable conditions,” head of Russian weather service Aleksandr Frolov told about importance of work performed by the International Hydrometeorology Council. According to him, experience exchange is important for all Council members. "The most important is that such activities cannot be performed independently. The weather is moving, despite of the borders, customs barriers, etc. And if we don't receive warnings on unfavorable conditions from our neighbors, we will not cope with this job at our end. Forecasting the weather for a day requires to have information from the territory of the whole Kazakhstan. And if you want to forecast the weather for a week, you need to know the weather in the whole Northern hemisphere,” head of RosHydroMet said.
