Kazakhstani writer Ilya Odegov won second prize of the 9th International Voloshin Literature contest, leaving behind more than 300 other participants, Tengrinews.kz reports, quoting the Express K. A story named “Purusha”, written by Ilya Odegov was awarded in the proze category (the story in Russian can be read here.) According to the author of the text, this is a story about a Nepalese boy who saved a Russian climber in the mountains. “I have been living in Nepal for a while and have seen a lot there. This story is a convergence of real events and fiction. Purusha is a name of a Hindu god, whose body, according to the legend, gave the origin of the world. This legend is a core plot for my story,” the writer said. The award allows Ilya to publish the story in a famous literature magazine “Druzhba Narodov.” Odegov noted that the contest is considered prestigious because of its immensity. Russian-speaking writers from 26 countries (Germany, France, Romania, USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Israel, Montenegro and others) met at the Festival that was held at the Black Sea coast, in Koktebel village, Ukraine, on September 5-11. Ilya Odegov is a prize-winner of many literature contests. His novel “The sound of rising sun” won Contemporary Kazakhstani novel contest in 2003, his play “Hope is hiding in a lie” won theatre contest in 2006. Ilya Odegov was among the winners at Poetry On (UK, 2002.)
