Kazakhstan is to introduce criminal liability for human cloning, Interfax Kazakhstan reports. Respective draft legislation has been prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science. September 16 the draft was submitted to the Majilis (lower chamber) for consideration. Human cloning will be penalized with prison terms of up to three years. In some cases the violators will be debarred from holding certain positions for up to two years, according to the draft. Should cloning be performed by an organized group of people or repeatedly, the violators may face 4-7 years in prison. Back in 2004 Kazakhstan passed a law that prohibits human cloning.
