New ambassador of the U.S. to Kazakhstan will arrive in Astana on August 24, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports citing a diplomatic source. Kennet J. Fairfax was approved by the U.S. Senate to become the new ambassador. Before the appointment he served as the Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs at the American Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. Fairfax also worked as Principal Officer and Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and U.S. Consulate General in Krakow. His diplomatic career includes Kiev, Vancouver, British Columbia, Seoul and Pusan (South Korea). Previous ambassador of the United States to Kazakhstan Richard Hoagland finished his diplomatic mission in Astana last winter and was appointed deputy ambassador of the U.S. to Pakistan. He served as U.S. ambassador in Astana for over 2 years since September 2008. John Ordway temporarily served as acting head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Astana after departure of Richard Hoagland. John Ordway used to be U.S. ambassador to Kazakhstan from 2004 to 2008. According to the agency's source, Ordway has been appointed for a new position and will work in Washingron from now on.
