Kazakhstan national Muay Thai team brought 7 gold medals from the European Muaythai Cup tjhat took place in Latvia, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the Vice-President of the Muay Thai Federation of Kazakhstan Farkhat Amankulov. Kazakhstan fighters also brought 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Serik Kulmakhanov who won gold in 67 kg said that it is more important for him to raise the flag of Kazakhstan rather than to win a gold medal. “Instead of a thousand medal it is better to her my hymn playing abroad,” he said. “This competition was very important for us because they are the first stage in preparation for the coming world championship that will take place in Tashkent in September. We are in a strong competition with Uzbek boxers now and it is very important for us to prepare well to be able to show good results in Tashkent,” Amankulov said. According to the Vice-President of the Federation that team has had a very powerful series: on April 3 the Kazakh team started out with the President’s Cup in Astana, then it went to The Asian Championship in Iran and just one week later it took off to Turkey for the European Cup. “The most fighters took place in the Cup of Europe. The team mostly includes young sportsmen between 16 and 23, and this is not just a local trend, but a worldwide one,” Amankulov said. He said that Iran,Uzbekistan and of course Thailand that is the originator of Muay Tahi will be Kazakhstan’s main rivals at the world championship. According to Amankulov Kazakhstan has good positions in Muay Thai World Federation. “We have a very powerful rating. In 2001 we hosted the Championship of Asia – that was the first time it was held outside Thailand. In 2003 we hosted the World Championship, in 2007 and 2011 – the President’s Cup. So the attitude towards our sportsmen and Federation is very good,” he said. “Now many of the guild on the team also study or work besides training. Many are observing Oraza (Muslim fast). They have the spirit and the will to win. These fighters are our future,” Vice-President of the Federation said.
