Kazakh judges may be admitted to the International Association of Judges in September

Kazakhstan judges may be admitted to the International Association of Judges (IAJ) in September, Chairman of the Supreme Court Bektas Beknazarov said during his first press-conference in this office, Tengrinews.kz reports. “In May we met with representatives of the International Association of Judges. In particularly with Peter W. Hall, Federal Judge of the United States Court of Appeal for the Second Circuit. His goal was to prepare a report of the judicial community of Kazakhstan. On the basis of this report a voting on the full membership application filed by the Judges Union of Kazakhstan will be held as part of the 54th annual meeting in Istanbul in September," Beknazarov said. According to the Chairman of the Supreme Court, experts say that Kazakhstan’s judicial system has come very close to the international standards and gives it a basis to apply for the membership in the IAJ. Membership in this organization would help advance Kazakhstan’s judicial system to a new level. “We are getting ready for this, filing reports, negotiations are underway. In just one month I will made an official announcement on the result of the voting,” Bektas Beknazarov said. Representatives of over 70 countries will decide whether to admit Kazakh judges into this prominent organization.
